Andy has always been very attentive when we are driving. He will tell you when to go, the light's green or when to stop because the light is red. Some day's it's like having my very own back seat driver at the age of 5. Lately, he has been paying more attention and once we have arrived home, he will unbuckle himself and climb into the drivers seat. He keeps telling me he wants to drive, but mom has to remind him he needs to wait, oh say about ten years.
Well, this answer hasn't been good enough for him. Today after we had been out running errands, he asked once again to drive my car. I laughed and reminded him he needed to be older and bigger as he can not reach the pedals. Well, Mr. Determined decided he was going to go ahead and do what he wanted. He found my keys, went into the garage, climbed into the driver's seat and put the keys into the ignition. Then he attempted to put the car into gear to drive away.
Since he couldn't figure out exactly how to get the car going, he, thankfully, gave up and came to get me because he couldn't get the keys out of the ignition. Mom had a difficult time trying to rescue her keys until I realized he had actually been able to get the car somewhat out of park. At first I was annoyed and then amazed and ultimately concerned that Andy had enough gumption to just go ahead and do whatever he wanted.
We had a little chat, then later dad had a little chat with Andy as well. I'm very thankful for his sense of direction and can tell you basically how to get where he needs to go, but I'm not sure about his little independent streak all ready. That kid is definitely our child.
