You're Fired

Bedtime is just a nutty part of the day and with three boys sharing the same room, it can be down right banana's.  Last night after putting the boys to bed, I was in the kitchen cleaning up and Aaron comes in crying.

 Aaron: "Mom, Andy's fired."

Mom: "He's fired?  From what?"

A: "He's fired from being my brother!"

M: "I'm sorry to hear that, let's go back to bed."

I relayed this story to Mike when he got home from junior high at church and we just laughed.  Kids are funny.

A little weekend cuteness

I was asked to take photos of my boys with their blankets from Great Grandma.  My sister-in-law is putting together a photo college and picture book for Grandma's 85th birthday this month.  It was a process of two different days and a little more learning about my camera, but I think they turned out okay.  My focus is not on the right thing, but 2 days after taking the pictures, I realized my camera was on the wrong setting for what I was doing, but I did learn more about white balance, so that is a bonus if you ask me.

First Day of School

The first day of school came and went without much fan fare.  Mike was in Chicago so it was up to mom to remember to take pictures and make sure Andy had all he needed for school.  I wanted to take more pictures but we ended up running late for school and of course the place is maddeningly crazy because every parent is there to see off their kiddos on the first day.

Andy did have a great day and so thankful that God placed my son with the right teacher for him even if he isn't with some of his friends, but lucky for him, there is always recess.

Aaron's first day of preschool went great as well and since mom is the class photographer, I had my camera ready to snap pictures of the kids and their parents.  One of the other moms took a picture of Aaron and I and I'm grateful she did.

Self Serve

Who needs mom anymore? Certainly not the 2 year old. Aaron decided he was thirsty, so he opened up the lower cabinet door, used the shelf as a ladder and climbed his little self up to the counter top to reach the upper cabinet where the glasses are housed.

Once the glasses had been retrieved, the milk, chocolate syrup and vanilla syrup were next on the boy's list. Andy had requested vanilla milk and Aaron wanted chocolate milk.

It seems as if Aaron's chocolate milk wasn't quite what he had wanted and he proceeded to let me know about it. I am glad the boy's are gaining more independence and wanting to help each other out. They are learning teamwork and no matter the mess I may have to clean up, teamwork with the boys is a skill they need to master.

Afternoon at Grasslawn Park

The weather has slowly been warming up this week and today I decided we needed to head to a park for some sunshine and different scenery. Our summer activities are few and far between the planned, so if we want to get together with friends or head to a park, our schedule allows it.

Today we went to Grasslawn Park in Redmond. This park is really easy to get to since it's off of two busy streets and has two separate play areas. We parked by the play structure that the boys really enjoy and had some fun playing for awhile. The bummer part was the toddler play structure was gated off for repairs so Aaron decided he would take a little walk.

Once mom caught up with him, we decided as a group to go down to the other play area as it is supposedly a spray park. Well, I wouldn't necessarily call it a spray "park" as it's more like a water fountain the kids can play in. The boys ran through the water for awhile, but you'll notice that Andy had more fun playing in the water as he is more wet.

Aaron did enjoy the water, but seemed to be more intrigued with walking around and a couple of times he wandered off without telling mom. The first time he walked off, I was able to find him relatively quickly. The second time, I was nursing Jacob and Aaron decided he wanted to walk back up to the other play area.
Once I discovered I could not find Aaron, I nearly hit the panic button. As I mentioned before, the park is near a very busy intersection and I was concerned Aaron would walk up to the street as he doesn't have a fear of vehicles like Andy does. Well, I had the panic look on my face and thankfully, someone noticed that I was looking for someone and came over to help me. He and his wife had seen this little boy walking up the trail by himself and thought it was a little odd. The gal tried to talk to Aaron, but he just kept on walking, little Mr. Stubborn. The gentleman asked me if I was looking for someone and I gave him a description of what Aaron was wearing and he told me he had seen him walk up the path.

I was so very thankful that we had found him as it had been a few minutes that had passed from the last time I had seen him. Of course, Aaron was fine and just wanted to go play somewhere else. I'm not sure going out to a park with three boys by myself is something I want to venture out and do again after today, but I am so truly thankful to God for protecting my boys.

In other news, I found out I'm going to be an aunt come February. My brother and his wife are expecting and I couldn't be more thrilled!

Sunday Morning Breakfast

I have a confession to make. We eat breakfast in the car on the way to church every Sunday. Yes, every single Sunday our breakfast is Eggo waffles and juice or milk for the boys and coffee for mom and dad. It's quick, it's easy and it works for us. This morning Aaron wanted to wear his sunglasses because of that big bright ball in the sky that pokes out from the clouds every once in awhile. I had to laugh and take a few pictures of my boys being silly.

Andy has his own Starbucks mug for his drink, but we seem to have lost it, so in the mean time he is using on of mom's. My boys are just too funny.

Your Bed is My Bed

Even though each boy has his own bed with his own Disney character sheets, we found Andy sleeping with Aaron on the bottom bunk. Sometimes I wonder why we spent the money to buy the bunk beds when we could have just kept the full size bed, but Mike and I both know they will enjoy their own space once they get used to it.

Or need a place to avoid the other one.

I pray they have a great friendship throughout the years and will always be there for each other.

The Best Way To Spend A Sunday Afternoon

What could be better, but nap time with grandpa and a little snuggly baby. We had lunch with grandma and grandpa after church and as we are having a nice quiet, restful Sunday afternoon, I look over and see grandpa not only put Jacob to sleep, but himself as well.

Lucky for me, the camera on the iPhone is handy and can be put in on silent.

On one of grandma's Costco shopping trips, she purchased the Bob books for the boys to begin the wonderful journey of learning how to read. She bought the first two sets and both of my older boys love the books. I'm sure grandma has read each one dozens of times, but this is truly how they will learn to read. Maybe Andy will be just like his mom and turn into a book worm.

The only thing that would have been even better was mom getting a nap.

A few pictures of Jacob

Here are a few pictures of the 1 month old.

I just love the expression on his face. He is such a good trooper about all the time he spends in the car seat.

This is my little ghost who appears every once in awhile. He tries to scare people and make himself known. We have a bit of the middle child syndrome appearing.

Jacob is starting to fill out and become a bit more chubbier. My little peanut isn't going to be little for much longer.

Why do you put me on my tummy? I do not like this, it's too hard to keep my head up.

I'm Not Taking a Nap

Aaron has decided that naps aren't really for him, even though I am still trying to get him to rest each day. This afternoon, Mike has been installing a new closet organizer for his closet and then putting what was in his closet into Andy and Aaron's room.

I had cleared out the boy's closet of a few bins and the dresser that was in there and it was all just hanging out in the room. I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to what the boys were doing and one of the times I happen to walk by their bedroom, I caught a glimpse of Aaron completely sacked out. I figure, I'll take the naps when I can get them.

Happy Mother's Day!

For Mother's Day this year, I wanted to get a picture of all three of my boys. This was going to be the gift for the grandmas only this picture is really what happened. Of course, I wait until the last minute to do anything, but having a newborn is just a great excuse, so I use it.

We went up to the park by our house late afternoon so the boys could play and I could hopefully, possibly, maybe get a picture of my boys. In all my great mom wisdom, I thought I would try to get the picture taken first and then they could play until their hearts desire, but as you can see, Aaron was having none of it.

Oh well, maybe someday when I get my fancy new camera, taking pictures will be easier.

Or not.

Sweet Days of a Newborn

I thought I would share a few pictures of Jacob in the first few days of his life in our family. He is such a good baby, but the two year old could use a few lessons. It's wonderful to have Mike home so I can just rest and recover.

Jacob at 2 days old. He and I stayed home on Easter Sunday and missed the family celebration, but it was a good time just the two of us.

If you look closely, Jacob is swimming in his clothes. Neither Andy nor Aaron were in newborn sized clothes, so I don't' have any, but a sweet friend ran to Target for me so Jacob would have a few clothes to wear that fit. He and Andy were napping on the couch and I just couldn't pass up this sweet moment. J is 3 days old.

Grandma also helped out in the newborn clothing situation and he looks so darn cute in his little baseball outfit at 8 days old. Poor kid was fighting the goopy eye syndrome for a few days, but luckily, it started after birth, so we should be in the clear.
Here is another picture day 8 of Jacob's life. I had to pick this shot because of the look on Aaron's face, that kid is just too funny some days.

Bunk Beds

The boys are the happy recipients of new bunk beds. Mike and I have been looking for awhile for bunk beds for the boys' room and we were thrilled when we found some very nice looking ones in a furniture store we thought had gone out of business. Come to find out that the son has started his own store, but it's the same furniture as before and the bed was a great price. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have any pictures of the bed yet, so stay turned.

Musuem of Flight Field Trip

Today was an exciting day for the Pine Lake Coop Preschoolers in a the 4s class. Teacher Ardis took the kids on a wonderful trip to the Seattle Museum of Flight. They have a little program for children and all of the kiddos plus a few siblings took in an afternoon learning about planes.

The children were split up into three groups and the first group Andy was in the learned how to make their own glider using strips of paper and straws. I love this picture I captured of his group. All using their right hands to print their names on their gliders using the markers provided.

Of course, mom forgot her camera, so I was able to use my iPhone, but then the battery started going dead. Mom also wasn't feeling her best due to being 38 weeks pregnant, but we all did fine. Here is Andy getting ready to send his glider in the big blue yonder. The children also learned that if you flew the glider with the smaller side in the front, it went further. At least I think it was the smaller hole, I don't really remember since it's been a nap or two since we went.
Aaron also wanted in on the fun. This group time was a trip around the world to mail letters. They started in Seattle, flew to Chicago, then New York and on finally to Paris where they then returned to Seattle. The "cities" were at various points around the learning center area. The kids dawned on scarves and mail bags for the trip too.
The group of parents, students and siblings listening to the closing section of our field trip. It was a fun time exploring the museum and seeing some of the airplanes and items used in making airplanes. I only wished I had felt better because I would have enjoyed spending more time at the museum. This way we will just have to plan for a family outing someday.
More pictures can be seen on our SmugMug page.

A New Year, A New Experience

Our day started out as a normal Sunday morning by attending worship service and Sunday school at Crossroads and chatting with friends. As we were leaving, some friends of ours invited us to head to Seattle for Chinese New Year. I was up for an adventure, so why not.

After we parked the car and headed to our friend's dad's jewelry store in the International District, the fireworks began and boy were they loud, so we retreated inside. Aaron is the one on the left in the gray hoodie with our friends Caleb and Matthew watching the festivities across the street.
Once the fireworks had ceased, our little group of ten headed to find some dim sum. No one in our family has ever had dim sum before and I wanted to go with someone who knew what they were ordering and fill us in on what we were eating. The boys had a lot of fun together playing with the water, chopsticks and just being boys.
I'm really glad to have such wonderful friends who are willing to share part of their culture and show some of us who grew up in the sticks what is out in the world.

January 2010

Since I am a little behind on my posts for the boys, I thought I would go through my pictures and add a few to the blog to see what all we have been up to in January. Unfortunately, it seems as if the camera has been put on a semi permanent vacation because I haven't taken many photos this year. Shame on mom, I know.

There are more pictures on my iPhone than the camera, which is good since I always have my phone with me. Mr. Shaggy, who needs a hair cut, spend the day with grandma and decided that he was headed off to work with grandpa's briefcase. I'm surprised he could carry that thing, but he more or less was dragging it on the hardwood floor, so I suppose that would assist in him getting away.

The next theme of the month seems to be in assisting mom with dinner. I love how my boys want to help out in the kitchen even if the amount of room for everyone including the expanding belly of mom's is quite close in quarters.

The next couple of pictures are of the boys actually peeling potatoes. I was quite impressed with how well they were doing with the vegetable peeler. Granted it took a bit of time, but hey after 5 minutes the boys were off playing with their toys and mom could continue making dinner without being squeezed into the corner.

Helpfulness

Sunday mornings are crazy at our house because we need to leave for church by 8:30 and we aren't exactly early risers. Oh well, we managed to make it pretty close to on time most days.
One of my requirements for church is my boys are to wear collared shirts, no t-shirts if possible. This Sunday, I had chosen matching polo's for the boys and Mike was helping the boys get dressed. Andy has been learning how to button his shirts and practiced on Aaron. It was a rare moment between my boys and I'm glad that Mike caught a picture of it.

Tree Decorating

It's that time of year again when the stores are playing Christmas music, the radio is blasting it 24/7 and two little boys have been begging to put up the Christmas tree. Mom on the other hand who normally pulls everything out the day after Thanksgiving really isn't in the decorating mood, so it's kinda up to dad to pull it all off. Blame it on being pregnant, but I'm really trying.
Costco to the rescue. Go figure that you can buy your Christmas tree along with all the trimmings for both the tree and your belly. Mike wanted a real tree this year since we won't be traveling to Oklahoma. We bought the tree on Saturday afternoon, but it was Sunday afternoon before we decorated the tree. The boys had a lot of fun figuring out whose ornaments were whose and it's always fun to remember the years past in these little objects that only come out once a year.

Now to keep those little hands from redecorating the tree. I wonder how many times I will have to tell him to keep his hands off the ornaments or clean up broken ornaments.

Seattle Auto Show 09

One of the annual Seattle events my guys like to attend is the Seattle Auto Show. This year it landed the same weekend as my brother's wedding, so Mike took an extra day off of work and since Andy didn't have school because of Veteran's Day we spend our afternoon perusing the latest and greatest in the auto world.

This was pretty much how the entire day went. Andy would politely ask to get into the car and climb into the back seat. Aaron, a boy of limited vocabulary, just climbed in the front seat and managed to find the hazard lights of each and every car he was in. Mike and I were amazed and a bit amused by his findings.

We had a great time as a family and of course completely wore ourselves out. I still like my car even though I could upgrade to a different model, mine is paid for and that out weighs any decision.

Roommates

Today was moving day for a little guy who has decided he is done with the crib and wants to sleep in brother's room. We borrowed a toddler bed from some friends and Mike spent a good part of the day cleaning Andy's room, rearranging furniture and moving Aaron into Andy's room. Another step in my little guy growing up.
Now, will they sleep together or have a party each night? Only bedtime will tell.
