How cute is Andy in his new glasses? The last pair broke when we went to Kidz Bounce for a morning of fun so we took the plunge and ordered a new pair with his updated prescription. The frames are red with black temples and the best part according to Andy is that they are automatic as he calls them. We had the transition lenses put in because he seems to be more sensitive to sunlight.

Vision & Patching
I recently took Andy into the eye doctor to check out how his eye is progressing with the patching. Unfortunately, it's not as strong as the doctor would like, so we will have to continue patching for a few more months for longer periods this time. Andy has been such a trooper, that I ordered some fun designed eye patches for him to wear.
I know that God will take care of my little boy, but it's hard to see him have to go through this.

Pair #5
Yesterday during the Mother's Day fun at grandma and grandpa's house, Dad and Andy were playing soccer with cousin with a ball that is really too big to be a soccer ball. Well, down went Andy and with it, glasses pair number four. This time the glasses broke at the temple. I could tell from where I was sitting that the glasses didn't fair well and Dad confirmed it when Andy came up crying and the glasses were in two pieces.
My brother-in-law asked if Andy had an emergency second pair and I informed him that I don't have another pair due to the cost. Andy's lenses alone are nearly $200, so tack on another $100 for the frames and that is my out of pocket cost. Oh well, I called the optical store this morning to order another pair and started laughing on the phone. I will pay the $15 for second day air this week and we should have them by Wednesday.
Just for math purposes, pair number 4 only lasted 4 days on the 4 year old.

Pair Number 4
I suppose it should be quite fitting that Andy would need pair number four on his fourth birthday. Yesterday morning, Andy somehow managed to break his glasses in half trying to pull them apart to put them on. Honestly, it was bound to happen anyway as those frames have lasted nearly 5 months and were probably stressed to the point of breaking.
This morning I dropped Aaron off at grandma's house, took Andy to Redmond because luckily, the optical store did have a pair of frames in and we picked up pair number four. And because my day is going that well, I have to drive back to Redmond to pick up his glasses case. Oh well, I have to go to the DMV and get a new drivers license anyhow.

Temporary Pair #3
Last Thursday, Andy broke his second pair of glasses. He had them in his hand and decided to throw a bit of a tantrum about going to bed and snap went the bridge. Okay, no problem, I'll just call the eye doctor on Friday morning. Um yeah, more snow, so now one went any where on Friday.
I was able to finally order a pair on Monday and decided to pay the overnight shipping so Andy would have some specs to see. I called today to see if they came in and the UPS guy had been there, but didn't drop off the frames. This snow is starting to really bug me. Mike and I had a Christmas party to attend in Kirkland tonight, so I thought I would drop by before they closed just in case, but alas, no glasses.
Kudos to the gal at the office though. She found a pair of frames that would match Andy's lenses so the kid can at least see until Friday when the frames should be there, because how convenient, the office is closed on Christmas Eve.
I'm praying for rain.

Pair Number Two
This afternoon, the eye clinic finally called and said they had Andy's glasses ready for him. Yeah!! Andy was so excited to go get his glasses. He was jumping up and down and giggling. It's nice to know he is still liking his specs.
We headed to Redmond to go pick them up. The gal who helped us informed me the color of the frames are different and did the other gal call me to tell me. Um, no. Oops on them. Basically the frames are burgundy instead of brown because the brown is so popular, it's back ordered. I figure by the time the brown ones come in, it will be time for another pair any how.

One Month and One Pair Down
This evening, Andy was on the floor playing around with Mike and Aaron decided to join in on the fun. Unfortunately, little brother grabbed at big brother's glasses and they snapped in two, right at the bridge of the nose.
Mike looked at the receipt to double check the warranty. I looked at it to see how long it took for the glasses to break. We picked them up on 10/24 and they snapped in two on 11/23. I just died laughing. Tomorrow we head back to the eye doctor to get another pair.

New Glasses

Andy is now sporting the ever familiar eye wear in our family. His left eye had started crossing a month ago, so I was referred to a pediatric opthomologist who has quite the waiting list. Once Andy was seen, we received the news of a little boy who is far-sighted.
Mom and Dad both wear glasses, but mom is near-sighted and dad is the far-sighted, gene giver. We were just very thankful no surgery would be needed.
Little brother was also seen, but for now, no glasses.
